Veikko Haukkavaara’s fish sculpture to be removed from Koukkuniemi

Kalaa esittävä metallinen veistos seisoo nurmikolla.

A public sculpture belonging to the collections of the Tampere Art Museum, Siimankatkoja (1973) by Veikko Haukkavaara, will be removed from its current location on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, due to construction work related to the new local detailed plan for the Koukkuniemi and Rauhaniemi area. The artwork depicting a fish has been located near the shore of Lake Näsijärvi, in the yard area of the Koukkuniemi nursing home.

The fish-shaped sculpture will be temporarily relocated to the Tampere Museums’ collection centre. Its future location is currently under consideration.

The City of Tampere purchased the sculpture from local sculptor Veikko Haukkavaara (1924–2004) in 1973. The work is made of painted steel. Haukkavaara became especially known for his welded animal sculptures.
