Tove Jansson’s First Moomin Story as Light Art in Tampere
In honor of the Moomin 80th anniversary, this year’s Light Gallery showcases 15 light artworks based on Tove Jansson’s original illustrations. The light art installation, projected onto the facades of central Tampere buildings, is titled The Moomins’ Journey Home. Curated by Tampere Art Museum, then Light Gallery is part of the Tampere Festival of Light, opening 24 October 2025. Have a nice walk in the evening and enjoy the Moomin artwork!
Young Artist of the Year 2025 Man Yau
Man Yau describes her own work as follows:
I work with sculptures and installations, often imitating everyday objects and aesthetic symbols of power. Materials and the value-laden associations tied to them are central to my work. I exploit the emotions and meanings evoked by demanding materials such as clay, silk, metal and glass – for example, ceramics can refer to the culture I supposedly come from, silk to the commercialization of the exotic, and glass to fragility.

Hanna Haaslahti: Ancestors
This autumn, the museum’s basement will showcase new media art by visual artist Hanna Haaslahti. Ancestors is an immersive installation in which the audience becomes the forebears of a virtually created family. Haaslahti’s work merges the faces of visitors to generate a unique virtual lineage with its descendants.
Beauty that conceals tension - read more about Man Yau
Based in Helsinki, Man Yau is one of the most compelling contemporary artists in Finland today. Through her art, Yau explores the feeling of being on display and under pressure, approaching it from the perspective of a woman and a BIPOC artist (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color). Receiving the prestigious Young Artist of the Year award was, for her, both a surprise and a source of delight and fear.
