Open position: Chief Curator, Exhibitions, for Tampere Art Museum

We are looking for a new Chief Curator, Exhibitions for a permanent position at the Tampere Art Museum, ideally from January 3, 2022. As the Chief Curator, you are responsible for the Tampere Art Museum's exhibition programme and you are the exhibitions team manager.

 

The Tampere Art Museum is Finland's third oldest art museum (founded in 1931), which holds Finland's second largest public art collection and is the museum with regional responsibility in the Pirkanmaa region. In its exhibition programme, the art museum presents a wide range of art historical themes and contemporary art and is especially known for the Young Artist of the Year event and exhibition. In addition, the Tampere Art Museum delivers various urban art projects.

The Tampere Art Museum is about to be renovated and extended with a new museum building “Siilo", designed by AOR Architects. The building design is the winner of an international architectural competition in 2017. The new museum building expands the existing exhibition space significantly, and brings with it a larger, more diverse exhibition programme. The renovated and expanded art museum is expected to open to the public by 2027.

Your day-to-day work includes leading, coordinating and taking responsibility for the exhibition programme of the Tampere Art Museum and urban art events. You will work together with the art museum’s collections team, regional team, Moomin Museum and other collaborators. Extensive knowledge of the national and international art field and good networks will help you excel in the task.

The eligibility requirement is a Master's degree in art history or equivalent relevant subject. We also require previous work experience in the museum field as well as leadership training and/or experience. The applicant is also expected to have excellent oral and written proficiency in English.

Training and/or experience in financial management and planning as well as international work experience in the field of museums and/or the arts are considered an advantage.
